HISTORY: ORIGINS
WORMS' BEGINNINGS (1970s)
Approximately fifty-six years before now, worms met the light of day for the first time, thanks to the Illfelder Importing Company. Additionally, they were not known as worms on strings yet, and rather went by their creator-given name "Squirmles." At the time of their creation and distribution, squirmles only came in limited colors: the six main colors of the rainbow, substituting red with pink. An unspecified amount of time later, a broader spectrum of squirmle colors emerged, thus also allowing biodiversity among today's worms (see Worm Biology: Subspecies.)
Both nowadays and back then, a squirmle's main purpose was to act as a party trick and/or toy. As seen in the video shown on the right, the squirmle's tag is anchored to a person's shirt, allowing the squirmle to be pulled by its string hands-free. It was then the squirmle-handler's job to guide the squirmle along their hands or inbetween their fingers, giving the illusion it was moving on its own.
